Hi, I just discovered this web page. How exciting. I am interested in locating my grandmothers real father Joseph Locklear. I don't have much information about him, only what my grandmother, Eula Narcissie Locklear Carlton told me. Joseph Locklear, my ggrandfather married Mary Elizabeth Leathers,m. Locklear, unsure when/where. Grandmother said her dad, Joseph Locklear, died when she was around (8)eight years old. She gave me these instructions on how to find where she was living when her father died. She said go thru Broadville, AL and then thru Liberty AL and on towards Guntersville, AL. She said you could see their house on the left on a hill about 100 feet from the road. She said it had flowers all the way down the road and was called the Hendrix place. It was a two story house with 5 bedrooms upstairs and 3 downstairs with dining room and kitchen in back with a porch all the way around the house and the back porch had a well. Grandmother said it was on and Orchard. After ggrandfather Joseph died my ggrandmother married Jake C. Alldredge, unsure when/where just that my grandmother was still very young. Grandmother said they moved to Oklahoma for a few months and experienced a big Tornado while there and turned around and came back to Alabama. Grandmother, said she had half brothers: George Locklear m. Williemae Penny (1st wife), m. Lucy Lee, (2nd) wife from Birmingham Alabama. Bud Locklear m. Josie Cason (grandmother said that Curg Aldredge adopted her but I can't remember why), their children: Lilliemae (oldest), Ada (prounounced Ader), Coot (nickname), Boy Robert. She also had a half sister: Liza Locklear (she was a whole sister to Bud and George)m. Nent Aldridge, they had (2) boys. Grandmother said her daddy was a full blooded Irishman and they called him Joe. His brothers were: Frank, Thomas (died at age 17 or 19 with pneumonia), Johnny (died at 7 years of age) and a sister Eula Locklear. Mary Elizabeth Leathers Locklear was b. Feb. 2, 1874, d. may 11, 1957. My grandmother Eula Narcissie Locklear m. Carlton, b. May 11, 1900 in or around Liberty, AL. and d. June 26, 1992, in Starke,Bradford County, Florida. She is buried at Elzey's Chapel Cemetary in Lake Butler, Union County, FL., along side her husband Robert Allen Carlton. I recently visited my ggrandmothers grave at Empire Cemetary in Mascotte, FL. she is buried next to my step-grandfather Jake C. Alldredge, b.Jan. 13, 1881 d. Jan. 25, 1947. I realize this is a lot of information for a beginner but I thought it might help if someone else recognized any one of these relatives or towns in Alabama. I'm from Florida and I'm just starting to build my family tree on my grandmothers side. Please help if you can. Thanks, Kathy |
