Kay,

I haven't done much work on this branch of the Lights. My wife is actually descended from both "Bird" (Baird) and his older brother Hugh Moore Light. Baird and Katherine "Kitty" had at least one other son named "Tice" (b. 1827). Their father's name was Mathias "Tice" Light. I can only suppose that the younger "Tice" was also Mathias; I don't have any evidence one way or the other. You should take a look at the series of postings which I, Renee' Gore and Darlene ?? (sorry Darlene) went through about the Lights from South Carolina.

As near as I can make out, the Indiana Lights all come from Mathias "Tice" Light (b. June 7, 1769 VA m. Mary Catherine "Polly" Moore d. 1807 to 1810 in Harrison Co., IN). Tice was among the first to buy land in Harrison Co (1907). Most of his children eventually moved to Owen Co, I belive including Baird (Check census). Check out an Owen County history (Franklin Twp?) for more info. The children were:

Annie
Hugh Moore
Abner
Hester "Hattie"
Israel
Baird
Robert
Josiah

Baird's son Tice (the only one I knew about to this point) eventually moved north with others of the family to Newton County (Washington Twp.). Tice married a Sallie Ann (last name unknown). I don't have much information on Baird or his son Tice. Older brothers Hugh Moore, Abner and Israel Light seem to have been more "civic minded." It sounds as if you hae more information than I do about Baird and family (Including Katherine's maiden and nick-names!). I'd love to hear from you. Email me! I've got other information that I'd like to share, but I don't want to type it into this little tiny Genforum space!
