Welcome to the Light family genforum website. The name Lightfoot was well known in Virginia among English people. Lightfoot is an English name too.
Today I read a few pages of history on the great Creek Nation. The English thought the Creek were the highest and most intelligent of the Native Americans, as farmers who quickly adopted the raising of cattle and other English customs. Creek pottery and weaving is widely admired.
The Creek and English were good neighbors until the great european wars with the french came to america. The French deceived the Creek into fighting the Yamasee. The English-american general George Washington was the chief who finally took the Creek land by deception and broke the treaty. Washington said the treaty was "a temporary expedient to quiet the minds of the Indians"
But Washington and Light were allies, sharing the same ancestors.
But those sad days are almost forgotten. Now we are all cousins of the Cherokee and the English and the Creek. I always say that we got the best of each by intermarriage.
Lightfoot was a chief, too. So you are welcome here. But don't think too much about those old wars and remember that our families have shared tobacco many times and remember the good times.
