I have been trying to find more about that line of Richard Lyte in St.Phillips Barbados. I concluded from the birth year of one of Richards sons, Thomas born 1651 in Barbados, that Richard was born at least 21 years earlier about 1630. Richard I think was born in England, because Barbados wasn't settled till nearly 1630. Captain William Light(Lyte) was in Barbados in 1640 with established plantations and could be Richard's father or uncle, etc. There is also a Richard Lyte born in 1661 in England who was nephew of Major Paul Lyte of Barbados. I don't trust the baptism dates, since John Light's daugher in law, Jenette Pinckett wasn't baptized till age 16, I think because she was in South Carolina where the Pinketts had a plantation as early as 1672.
Where did your ancestor Constant Lyte Wilkinson eventually settle? I'm quite sure I have the right Lyte family in England since the names Constance, Thomas, etc are the same as in the Barbados line.
Tell me what you know about them. John Light appeared in a 1718 Charleston petition and returned to Barbados right after the war that year.
