My research is in the Myers and Lee families of Ft Myers in Lee County Florida. One of the things that has come up is brick making and making bricks.
It seems when General Robert E Lee married Mary Anna Randolph Custis, he married a descendent of Pocahontas.
It was Chief Powhatan that was interested in this new thing called a "Brick" Captain John Smith and company knew how to make and use.
The people from England traded Bricks and Brickmaking Skills for food.
Brickmaking and bricklaying was taught at the Carlisle Indian School. I have a fellow by the name of James Garfield Brown who was both trained at the Carlisle Indian School and was the chief fire bricklayer for Andrew Carnegie. This leads to the Mellon family who owned Carter Hall the home of General Robert E Lee's mother.
Hey, maybe all a coincidence but I am interested in this subject of bricks and the Lee family of Appomattox Court House.
