Hello all, Thank you in advance for any help that you can lend. I am trying to figure out the origin of my maternal families last name KASSE, I am fairly certain it is not the original spelling, maybe close to the original pronounciation. I have found the surnames Kassis and Kassem, which sound (at least to me) similar. The oldest references I have to the name is my great-grand father JULIAN, his brother Abraham and sister Antonia. They setteled in the province of San Pedro de Macoris. Julian, according to family tradition, was actually born in Lebanon, he seems to have been born around the turn of the 20th century. I am including some other Lebanese last names that are associated with the province of San Pedro hoping that they came from close geographic proximity in Lebanon (we immigrants tend to stick to whom we know when going to a new place), I also understand that these surnmaes might have gone through changes due to language differences or ignorance by the authorities of the time: Acta, Alam, Antún, Bulú, Calán, Caram, Dip, Fadul, Feris, Haché, Hazim, Helú, Isaac, Jacobo, Javis, Kasse, Llodrá, Merip, Musa, Nicolás, Risi, Salomón, Sasso, Zaglul.
