I am researching one Festus Laffey (also known as Frank). I have learned that he was the 2nd husband of my maternal great-great grandmother, Delia Monahagn Phillips Laffey (she died 3/12/1927 and is buried in St. Johns cemetery). He died 9/14/1893 and is buried in Holy Cross cemetery, Brooklyn, NY with my grandparents. I have a few documents relating to Festus in my possession, including: his funeral bill, his Civil War discharge papers, his Civil War pension file. According to those: Festus was born in Ireland (I don't know where) in approximately 1831. He served as a Private under Captain Eugene Wells in Company D, 12th Regiment, US Infantry and was discharged 3/6/1865 at Elmira, NY. He may also have served an earlier tour of duty, being discharged at Fort Pickens, FLA in 1/1862. He was married prior to my gggrandmother, to Julia Laffey, who died in 1883 at 55 years of age (she is buried in Cavalry cemetery). I do not know if Festus and Julia had any children. He married my gggrandmother in June of 1891 at St. Johns Church. In 1890 Festus was residing in a Soldiers & Sailors Hospital in Bath, NY Steuben County. I would love to hear from anyone who may have further information about Festus, Delia or Julia. I would be happy to share what I have with them. Thanks, Christine. |
