I am searching for my grandmother's MOTHER'S Parents. Grandmother was orphaned when she was a young girl. She did not remember much about her parents, but did have some old tin type and cardboard pictures of them.

Her father was in the Civil War and his pension papers say that he fought and was injured in Atlanta, Georgia 1-2 Sept 1864.

He was first married to an Emma E.(unknown)b. 1840, before the war. They divorced and had no children. Grandmother was born of his second wife.

[Grandmother, Flora Jane Lanier, was born in Church Point, Acadia Parish, Louisiana Sept 1891, but raised for a short time in Crowley, Acadia Parish, Lousiana....3-6 years?]

I am hoping that there will be a birth record or other listings with the full names of her parents...especially her mother's MAIDEN name! Her father (rice?)farmed and was a carpenter in Louisiana.

Her Mother was Matilda E. (unknown) and her father's pension papers have his name signed in his own handwriting as "A.F." Amon Franklin Lanier b.1835 either in Alabama or North Carolina. I think Alabama might be the most accurate. He was in the Eufaula, Barbour Co., Alabama Light Artillery...under Reuben F. Kolb, and in Williams Battalion. He served for 3 years and 7 months, before he was disabled in the war in Atlanta, Georgia.

Grandmother Flora Jane Lanier had six siblings counting herself. John R. Lanier, Minnie Mae Lanier, Frank Lanier (Deceased as a baby), a brother (stillborn), herself (Flora / Flarra) and the youngest Robert E. Lanier. The two little brothers may have died in Louisiana before her parents returned to Texas alittle before 1900.

I do not know where these siblings are buried.

I saw some land records with the name (Mrs.) Matilda E. Simpson....registered in Baton Rouge, LA, but I have no proof that it was her.

In an old letter from grandmother....she said that her mother was Matilda Elizabeth Jane Simpson, but said that her mother went by "Betty" or Elizabeth Jane Simpson b. 1855 AL. Grandmother marked out the name Matilda. She said that she did not like the name.

If Matilda E. had been (previously) married to a Mr. Simpson...who was he?

What was Matilda's maiden name?.

I sincerely hope these clues will help someone, to help me, locate the ancestors of my Grandmother's ""mother"". I have hit a brick wall here. I would truly appreciate 'some help' with this one!!!

Thank you,
Retta
