The following information is from the book "Historic Nelson County, Ky" by Sarah B. Smith:
With the flow of emigrants into Nelson county, a little village called Salem cintaining thirty three settlers sprang up in in its center. They wre living in log cabins. Late this village was called Bardstown, now the county seat of Nelson county. Salem was not fortified but depended upon the outlying stations to afford suficient protetion. These forts were called Stations and they were built like forts.
Sarah Smith worked in Bardstown and in the court house. After she retired she wrote this book which mainly about the early buildings and sturtures in the county. Book was written in 1971.
