I have a family mystery, I hope someone can shed some light on. I have been searching for my Williams ancestors - the earliest of whom is Sanford Williams b: 1810 in VA. I know there were Williams families from VA who acquired land in KY and moved there, most notably Bourbon Co., although I haven't been able to link my family to them. My Williams family, as far as I know, only lived in VA then on to OH.
I came across a religious card in my mother's possession. The face of the card is the Virgin Mother. The reverse states: 1886-1936 A souvenir of the Golden Jubilee of Brother Celestine, C.F.X. June 12, 1936 St. Joseph Preparatory School, Bardstown, KY. It is signed in pencil at the bottom with my grandfather's name, Ray Williams. Now, my grandfather was not raised Catholic, although he converted when he married my grandmother in 1930. His family was Protestant, and earlier, Baptist. My mother and uncle have no idea where this card came from or of any family connection to Kentucky. (My grandmother was born in Europe and came to the US in 1920. She never lived anywhere other than PA and OH)
I feel this has to be a clue - it obviously belonged to my grandfather and he apparently was in Kentucky at the time of this Golden Jubiliee, but why? Does anyone know of this school or of any Williams families in the area? Any information is appreciated.
