Bob, thanks so much for your research and reply. Unfortunately, our family bible ends with William b 1788, VA. The location and exact date of his marriage to Rebeccah Mckibben are unknown. I was grabbing at straws thinking that perhaps Matthew and Jane could possibly be William's parents.
I want to especially thank you for the short history lesson. I obtained Nelson County as the birth county for Matthew and Jane from searching dozens of web sites. It is now quite apparent to me that a considerable number of "researchers" have relied upon incorrect information and have spread it much like a virus.
By this time next year I hope to have enough information so that I can spend a month or two in Virginia searching documents. I do not intend to make the same mistake mentioned above when I finally post my family tree for all the world to see. I (as I am sure other do also) find it quite frustrating to see quite obvious errors, some as simple as typos and others as blatant as children born after the death of both parents. With a surname like Rodgers and it's possible connection to the Mayflower and England's Thomas "The Martyr" it pays to be thorough. Actually, I hope my roots lead away from that genealogy mess, I have a big enough headache just trying to locate William's parents, LOL!
