I am seeking information on the Elbert Gillis listed in the Letcher County 1890 Special Census for Union Soldiers. He is listed as having served with the 47th Regiment of the Kentucky Mounted Infantry Volunteers, Company H. I believe he is the same Elbert Gillis, who after his unit mustered out in December 1864, joined the NC 3rd Mounted Infantry Volunteers, Company K in Burnsville, Madison County, NC in March 1865. Elbert's son William F. Gillis, born 1876, may have followed Elbert to Kentucky as he is listed in the 1900 Census for Laurel County, KY, living with his wife, Luna Jane Gillis. Elbert's wife, Matilda Metcalf, apparently remarried and with the last name Anders, filed for a pension in 1892, first as a widow, and later in 1897, as a guardian. She was living in Madison County, NC at the time. Thanks for any help.
