The primary newspaper distributed in Letcher County during that time would have been the Whitesburg Mountain Eagle. Microfilm of copies from that era would be available at the Harry Caudill Public Library in Whitesburg. It might also be accessible through interlibrary loan as I believe the Univ. of KY library and others may also have micro copy.
