I'm trying to find the birth family for Margarette Alexander, who married George W Maynard and lived in Mingo County WV. The 1900 census gives her birth date as Jan 1849. According to her granddaughter (still living) Margarette was born in Greenup KY. She and George were most likely married around 1871 in Hardee, Logan WV; they raised four children (Columbia, Permeley, Mordecia and Thomas) of their own, and "adopted" two - Patterson Spaulding (b about 1894) and Vicie Hensley (b 1897). George was an itinerant Baptist preacher and the family story is that he "found" these two kids who needed a family. I do not know where they were born (but would like to!). I would also like to find out when Margarette Alexander Maynard died. It would have to be between 1910 and 1920, as George is a widower by the 1920 census. I have not had any luck looking at the 1850 or 1869 census records for Kentucky OR Ohio. Thank you!
