Barbara, I am so glad to hear from you! I descend from Barney's son John Arnold Lane b: April 17, 1862. His son Ira Floyd Lane Sr.b: September 15, 1893 was my grandfather. He was the one who told us that Barney, his grandfather was an orphan and he was raised by a relative Col. West. My brother has John Arnold's Bible. My email is mlisap@yahoo.com I would love to exchange family information with you. I only have a birth year for Gideon and that is from census records so I am not sure how accurate it is.
