Cincinnati O. Williams is not the daughter of Susanna Grisham Williams and James Williams, Jr. Susanna was married to James Williams,Sr. in 1823. His first wife, Nancy West Williams, died around 1820. I live in Christian Co. and my husband is a descendant of James and Nancy West Williams. We have closely researched court and census records. Researchers of this family at first thought that her husband was the son, James Williams, Jr. However, census records have proven this to be incorrect, and we now know her husband was James Williams, Sr. Susanna had 3 marriages (her first 2 husbands died). She married Braxton, then O'Daniel, and finally James Williams, Sr. She had no children by Braxton, but had at least 3 or 4 by O'Daniel. She and James Williams, Sr. had at least 4 more children: Arena Williams, Merrell Washington Williams, Selina A. Williams (who married a Perry), and James C. "King" Williams. James Williams Sr. and Susanna could have had a daughter named Cincinnati, but there are no records here we have found to support that

James Williams, Sr. last appears in the 1840 census, so he died sometime between the 1840 and 1850 census. Susanna appears in the census records as Susanna Williams up until 1880, so we know that she did not remarry after James died. Here are the census records for Susanna--none of them mention a daughter named Cincinnati.

Reference page 20, Household # 92-93 of the 1850 Todd Co., KY census where Susannah is shown as Susanna Williams age 49 born in NC and head of a household which included: daughter Jane (O'Daniel) age 30; daughter Arena Williams age 25; daughter Selna Williams age 19; son (Merrell) Washington Williams age 15; and son James (C. 'King') Williams age 13. Another daughter, Elizabeth O'Daniel age 30 was living nearby in household # 90-91 as the wife of Presley O. Martin.

Reference page 78, household # 752-752 of the 1860 Todd Co., KY census where Susannah is shown as Susan Williams, born in NC and again head of a household which included: daughter Jane E. O'Daniel (her name spelled out in this census) age 43; and daughter Arena Williams age 33.

Reference page 90, household # 30-30 of the 1870 Todd Co., KY census where Susannah is listed as living in the home of her son James C. 'King' Williams age 23. Also listed were Amedie E. Williams age 40 (maybe Arena ?); Jane E. O'Daniel age 50; and James D. O'Daniel age 17, who was the son of Jane E. O'Daniel.

Reference page 196, household # 30-30 of the 1880 Todd Co., KY census where Susannah is listed as Susanna Williams is still living in the home of her son, James C. 'King' Williams age 42. Also listed are: July (Julia Powell) age 31; James M. age 3; and John W. age 1 who are James C. Williams' wife and two sons. Susannah's daughter, Arrena Williams age 53 is listed as living nearby in household #32-34 with her son P. Williams. Another daughter, Salina (Williams) Perry age 44 is also listed living nearby in household # 33-35 with her children by Daniel M. Perry who had died in 1875.

Reference the write up of Aaron Virgil O'Daniel on page 279 of the History of Todd Co., KY by J.H. Battle, published in 1884 which stated that Aaron's parents were Susan A. Grissam and Joshua O'Daniel. It also stated that Susan Grissam O'Daniel (Williams) was still alive in 1884 at age 93 which would have placed her birth around 1791.

Cincinnati Williams did marry William Ellis West. Reference page 87, Christian Co., KY Vital Statistics, 1852-1861 compiled by Shirley West Cain indicates that the mother of Mary A. West, born 11 Jan 1852 in Todd Co., KY was Cincinnati O. "WILLIAMS", wife of William E. (Ellis) West.
Reference page 20, household # 91-92 of the 1850 Todd Co., KY census where William Ellis and Cincinnati O. West are living next door (household # 92-93) to Susanna Grisham (Braxton) (O'Daniel) (Williams) widow of Abner Braxton, Joshua O'Daniel, and James Williams. If Cincinnati was a "WILLIAMS", she could be the daughter of James Williams Sr. and Susanna Grisham Williams; but this is unproven as yet. I would love to find some proof of this.
