Hi Linda,
What a challenge!!!
We checked our family files….nothing on Methvan/Gowans
1850 census………..nothing on Methven/Gowans in Campbell County, KY
1860 census………..nothing on Methvan/Gowans in Campbell County, KY*
1860 census………..nothing on Methvan/Gowans in Kenton County, KY

* We did find 1 Thorpe on pg 202 in Alexandria Precinct
Thorpe, Francis 56, Jane 56, Eliza 26, Frederick 25, George 24, Jane 23, William D 22, Essy 16

We checked Evergreen Cemetery, Southgate, Campbell, KY……… Methvan, Gowans nor Thorpe
Just for giggles we checked the only downtown cemetery in Covington, Kenton, KY and found:
John Methven aged 22, buried 11-10-1863, sect RR, Row 002, Lot N˝
Young girl Methvin, buried 5-31-1944.….moved to Highland Cemetery
Thorpe, ? , buried 2-20-1861, Sect RW, Row 038
Thorpe, Eliza, buried 3-31-1889, age 68.…Thorpe Lot

Thorpe, Paul A, buried 7-5-1869, Sect S13, Row 05R, Lot 014
Thorpe, William D, b 1832, d 12-8-1886, …….Thorpe Lot

We are sorry to say….that is all we have. But we would suggest contacting the Kenton County Public Library, 504 Scott St Covington, KY 41011, phone: (859)962-4060. They have newspapers on microfilm in which you might find the marriages and the story of the “murder of his alcoholic wife”. They can be found on line at I don’t know if there is a charge for that research , but there is a charge for copies and mailing.

Good luck with your further research,
Martha & Jerry
