My whole family, except for 4 orphan children were wiped out in some kind of disaster in Borth Humphries, Ballard Co. around 1885. I have been trying to purchase a copy of the book, Ballard County Births and Deaths, 1852-1910, transcribed & typed by Barbara Smith, but have been unable to do so. Does anyone know where I might be able to obtain a copy of this book? Also, where would be the most likely place for burial of individuals dying during these years in Borth Humphries. My Great-Grandfather's name was John W. Hilton. His wife was Virginia Elizabeth (Ware) Hilton.
Living with them at the time of the 1880 census, and I'm assuming these people perished also, were Martha Ellen (Ware) Ingraham and her husband George Ingraham. There were also several children who died. I can find no trace of any of these people after the 1880 census. My sister and I plan a trip to KY in about 2 weeks. Where would be the best places to look for information? Would one cemetery be more likely than another as a burial site for this era? Where might I find information as to what happened to these people? Any information would be greatly appreciated as our time in KY will be limited. Linda (Hilton) Ball
