Yesterday I was given several old family photos from the turn of the last century. I'm tracing the ancestors of Kansas "Frank" Menges and his wife, Rosa Baker. I found Frank on the 1900 Census for Hoisington, Homestead Twp., Barton Co. living with his mother, Anna, and his siblings, Addie, Jonas, Hattie, Minnie & Susie. I believe that I have found Rosa's parents also living there, however, I'm not positive about that. One of the photos I have is labeled Gertie Baker-Jan. 1902. The census record I found for Hoisington shows John Baker b.1/1846 in Germany; wife Matilda b. 1/1848 in Ohio; dau. Ida b.12/1875 in OH; son Wade b. 3/1882 in KS; son Harry b. 8/1883 in KS; dau. GERTIE b. 8/1888 in KS. Gertie Baker in the photo would be about the age of the Gertie found on the census.
I believe that I've found Rosa living in Horace City, Greely Co., KS. Sketchy info that I have about Rosa is that she was born 1/16/1876 in Wheeling,Ohio, raised in Hoisington, KS. She died in San Diego, CA on 7/23/1962 and her grandson believes his dad sent Rosa back to Hoisington to be buried. Rosa's mother's maiden name was Zeller from Ohio and father was from Germany.
Can any of you offer any help or connections?
