I realize that this post is a long overdue comment about the Korean WAR. President Truman could not have imagined the residual affect that the word 'CONFLICT" instead of "WAR" would have upon all of the Korean WAR dead, wounded and other veterans who fought in that bitter cold country against savage North Koreans and Chinese "volunteers". President Truman was not trying to fool anyone when he declared it as "Conflict". ONLY THE US CONGRESS had and still has the authority to declare the United States to go to war. Truman had to find a way around the law and he chose the word "conflict" to side step the Congress. Public ignorance carries on. Each time a Korean vet, or his/her family members read or hear public reference to wars our country have fought, such as WW I, WW II, Vietnam, Gulf War, etc. and omits the Korean WAR, write a letter to the editor or author of the misguided piece, or call the radio or TV station about the disrespect shown to Korean WAR veterans and the families of those who did not make it home alive. Remind the local media of the June 25,1950 and July 27,1953, beginning and ending of an outrageous loss of over 33,000 lives in those three years.
