Private First Class Griggs was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 3, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. Private First Class Griggs was awarded the Purple Heart, the Combat Infantryman's Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Korean War Service Medal.
