Was it possible for someone who served in the Korean War to be in 2 infantrys? My fathers Amry pic has the 25th patch (Tropical Lightning, yet on the medals on his DD-214 shows the following: Army Occupation Medal Japan-Combat Infantry Badge Par 3 SO 173 HQS 27th INF DTD 24 July 50
He than has the DD-215, due to they forgot some of his medals. Which were:
Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, Good Conduct medal, Distinguished Unit Emblem with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Of Occupation Medal with Japan Clasp, Korean Service Medal with 3 Bronze Service Stars, United Nations Service Medal, Republic Of Korea, Presidential Unit Citation Badge, Marksman Badge with Carbine Bar, Korea 28 November 1950.
I am wondering if my Dad was in Japan at the time of the beginning of the war. He joined on his 17th B-day in 1949, he joined in Iowa than did his boot camp in Kansas..I think. All I know is he was discharged from Fort Lawton, Washington, and also know that he served his full 3 years even though he was granted early leave due to his war wounds giving him problems.(He was shot through both legs)
I'm not really sure on his full unit. i just know that his uniform has the 25th Patch.
Thanks for any help
