My Margaret Knopf who married John Herr was born in Mertzwiller, Alsace, France in 1823. Coincidence???????Michael her father came to America in 1828. His family sailed out of LeHarve, France on the "Helen" and arrived May 3 1828. Ships manifest list Margaret as 5 yers old. Did I add Michael was born March 1798. If he is a brother to your Adam then Peter the father was about 19 when Michael was born.
Margaret had children John,Catherine, Jacob,Mary, Mikel,Margarethea, George, Frederick,Phillip, Henry,Magdalena, Adam, another son died an infant.
Margaret left a bible record of her children that was written in German I believe.I haven't seen it but have info from it. Michael Knopf's second wife was Eva Herr so I believe the Herr's and Knopf's were in the same area of New York at the same time. His first wife Marianne Florian died in 1835. I have only 2 dhildren so far for Michael and Marianne(my Margaret and a Maria "Mary" born in Black Rock,(Buffalo), New York according to her descendants). One for Michael and Eva Herr. Maria is not proven yet, but Maria and husband Frederick Beck also moved to Wellman, Iowa.
I think there was room for Michael and Marianne to have had some more children before she died in 1835 but I haven't found them yet.
Perhaps your family can be found on the same ship???????
This certainly looks promising as a connection.
