For those of you who are males with the Kirtley surname, please consider joining the Kirtley DNA project at http://www.worldfamilies.net/surnames/k/kirtley/. This involves getting a Y-chromosome DNA test conducted (it doesn't hurt!!!) and submitting the results to the project. We will look for matches to determine the genealogical relationship of the various Kirtley families in the USA, the British Isles, and elsewhere. I suggest that you have either the 37- or 59-marker test for it to be useful for differentiating families. This is a very exciting new tool when used in combination with research into historical source records. My Kirtley web site at http://arslanmb.org/kirtley/kirtley.html will post findings related to the family of my immigrant ancestor Francis Kirtley.
