Dear Reinhart, My grandmother was a Kieffer from Formosa. (In fact, there are still Kieffers there, in Belmore and Teeswater Ontario who are related.) I've run across FX's name before. I have an ancestor, Ignatius Kieffer who is likely to be related. He was born in 1837 and was born in Alsace. (The transcription of the 1901 Canadian census has his name as "Sawatius" which doesn't help! I have Ignatius's (also recorded as "Ignatz") parents as Joseph Kieffer and Magdalena Stutter.
