I have wondered if there could be some kind of military record for Salinda's husband William Owings who fought in the War of 1812; and if so that it might hold some clues regarding Salinda. Again, it is the information in the following source which lists William's war participation:
THE HISTORY OF THE OWINGS FAMILY by Donnell MacClure Owings, PhD, Salt Lake City Family History Library, 929.273Ow3o page 105(also on microfilm): "William Owings participated in the battle of New Orleans [War of 1812], serving from 20 November 1814 to 20 May 1815 in Capt. Malone's Company, 14th Regiment of Kentucky Militia, under Col. Reuben Harrison. In 1825 he settled in Prairie Township, near Truxton, Lincoln County, Missouri, returning home [?Kentucky] briefly, three years later, to be married."
I know the National Archives has service records for the war of 1812, but as of yet I have not found a pension index card for William. Do you have any experience in this area or any suggestions regarding searching his military records?
