You are right about the Martin family of Marion, SC being confusing. I believe that the Matthew Martin who married Susannah Harrelson is a different one from the Matthew Martin who married Elizabeth Keeffe. It may tie in this way: Matthew Martin who married S. Harrelson was the son of a Matthew Martin, Sr. This Matthew Martin, Sr. had a brother named Aaron Martin, and this Aaron also had a son named Matthew. This is the Matthew who married Elizabeth Keeffe Therefore the two Matthews would be first cousins. Some of this info on the Martin/Harrelson families is listed in a diary by Simeon Campbell. Diary is dated 1902. It also lists Matthew H. Martin as the son of Matthew Martin and Susannah Harrelson. Hope this helps.
