Edward L. Kearns of Palatine The funeral for Edward L. Kearns, 84, will begin at 10 a.m. Friday, at Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home, 185 E. Northwest Highway, Palatine, then proceed to St. Joseph Home for a Mass at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in St. Michael the Archangel Cemetery, Palatine. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. today, at the funeral home. He died Tuesday, March 13, 2007. Mr. Kearns was a Navy veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was a Corsair fighter pilot who flew sorties from the USS Intrepid and earned the Distinguished Flying Cross medal. He also served in the Naval Reserves for 20 years and retired as a lieutenant commander. In his business career, he retired as a central regional manager from Del Monte Corporation, after holding various positions in Cleveland, Tokyo and most recently, Chicago. He was active in the Addison Irregulars and was an avid golfer. Edward was the beloved husband of Helen; loving father of four daughters, Camille (Robert) Rudy, Colleen (Jacob) Foraker, Marie (David) Ritland and Christine (Jeff) Gelman; cherished grandfather of Victoria, Morgan, Alexandra, Blake Dillon, Arielle, Tommy and Samantha; dear brother of Sr. Sheila of Ursuline Convent in Cleveland and the late Martin, William, John, James and Gerald; and fond uncle of many nieces and nephews.
