I have just discovered an excellent, multi-page search re:the KATES name and all its variations. Was packed away with some family things. There is a list of different Kates and where they lived in the early settlement of the USA, and a list of different Kates families, some of those who became prominent, etc. If anyone would like to me look to see if the earlist Kates is included, I would be glad to do so. It certainly is an interesting article. One of my ggrandfathers was Joseph Whitfield Kates.
