I'm looking for information on my 3rd Gr Grandfather, Samuel Goldsmith b. Abt. 1774 in Germany. I don't know when he came to the USA but I found him in a City Directories for Charleston for the years, 1803, 1806, 1807 and 1813
Goldsmith, Abraham StoreKeeper 112 King St.
Goldsmith, Morris StoreKeeper 112 King St.
Goldsmith, Samuel StoreKeeper 10 Queen St.
I haven't been able to determine what, if any, relationship there is between these three men.
Samuel m. Esther Labatt b. abt. 1776 in Charleston, SC. She was the daughter of David Cohen Labatt and Catherine Meyers.
He came to Savannah, Chatham, Ga. sometime between 1824-1830. I could find him in census records. In a letter he wrote to the newspaper, he identifies himself as having 7 children. I have been able to prove 4 of them and guess about the other 3 but not with a great of certainty. My ancestress, Isabell b. 1800 appears to be the oldest. She married John Evans b. 1801 in Gloucester, England. Next comes Diana b. 1817 who married Adolphus L. Heine. The next that I have was Jacob b. 1819 and d. 1820. Finally, I have Henrietta b. 1823. I don't know where Samuel is buried but Esther Labatt Goldsmith, Isabella Goldsmith Evans, and Henrietta Goldsmith are all buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery, Savannah, Ga. Diana Goldsmith Heine is buried Shreveport, La.
Two other children may have been Levi and Benjamin. No further information on them. There were very few people in Savannah with the last name Goldsmith and I still can't get them all connected. if you are related or know of this family, please let me know. Thank you
