It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Arsenio Michieli in Chions, Italy, the place of his birth, on April 25, 2009 while on vacation. He was the eldest child of 12 children born to Giovanni and Maria Michieli on May 27, 1924. As a young man he was very creative, adventurous and inventive. His love for cycling at an early age led him to competitive racing were he broke a few records and was a racer in Italy and Canada. He served in the Italian Army with the Alpini. His hard work and networking gave him the opportunity to come to Canada to seek a better life for him and his brothers and sisters. In 1951 he landed in Canada and started work at the Canadian Foundry. This and other side construction jobs enabled him to bring the rest of his family to Canada. Along with his brothers, Arsenio, established Michieli Bros. Contracting. Some of their many building projects were the Michieli Apartments, The Sleeping Giant Hotel, which they owned & operated for many years. In his retirement years he vacationed in Italy where he enjoyed working in the family vineyard and socializing and visiting old friends. Arsenio is survived by brothers Ferruccio (Lina), Angelo (Annie), Giorgio (Maria Rosa) of Italy, Giovanni (Bruna), Giuseppe (Wendy), Dino (Sherrill), sisters Mariuccia Sellan of Italy, Anna (Giovanni) Dedona, Lucia (Lino) Peitenuzzo, Teresa (Augusto) Vittori of Italy, sister-in-law Bruna Michieli and numerous nieces and nephews in Italy and Canada. Predeceased by his parents Giovani & Maria Michieli, brother-in-law Giovanni Sellan of Italy, brother Carlo Michieli. A Memorial Funeral Mass for the late Arsenio Michieli will be held Friday, June 5, 2009, when family and friends will gather at St. Domenic Church at 10am. celebrated by Rev. Daniel Lapolla c.s. A private family interment will follow in St. Andrews Cemetery.. Fa un Buon Vaggio “Chief” |
