Two recently located obituaries may help to trace Samuel H. DIXON (1809-1894) and his wife, Elizabeth Ann GILL (1804-93): St. Lawrence Republican, Wed. 8 Aug. 1894: DEATH OF SAMUEL DIXON. Samuel Dixon, an old resident of Ogdensburg, died at 8:45 o’clock Thursday afternoon after an illness of a few weeks. He was born in County Antrim, Ireland, in 1809 and has lived in Ogdensburg 50 years. He leaves a son and a daughter, Samuel H. Dixon, of the city police force, and Mrs. Alice Wilson, of Black Lake. his funeral will take place from his son’s residence, 89 Hamilton street, Sunday, at 2 P.M. Ogdensburg Advance News, March, 1893: Mrs. Elizabeth Dixon, wife of Samuel Dixon, died at her late residence Wednesday morning at the ripe old age of 87 years. About two months ago, Mrs. Dixon suffered a stroke of paralysis from which her feeble condition could not recover. She was a native of Ireland, County of Antrim, and with her father, a Methodist clergyman, came to this country when but a child. They settled in Vermont, afterwards going to Canada. About fifty years ago she came to this city where she has since resided. A husband, a son, Samuel H. Dixon of the city police force and a daughter, Mrs. Jacob Wilson of Black Lake survive her. Her funeral will be held Friday afternoon at two o’clock. |
