I have relatives who left Ceylon in 1798 after the British took control ,these members went to Batavia to work for the Dutch in Indonesia ,
Would any one members of this van der Straaten or Van Dort in Indonesia like to make up dates with me I would be very happy to add your family up dates in our ancestry .
Some of the van der Straatens who lives Ceylon never went back to Ceylon and proberly went back to Holland , I have a few names that I shall put in for your reference
Also I know that there are a few Van der Straatens from Indonesia , who do not know if they belong to our line of the van der straaten family .I have a family emblem that you can compare your item with mine to see if you belong to my Branch .
My ancestor came / was Born in Singen in Baden GERMANY ,
He was Born in Germany but was of Dutch Origin,His mother was a German ,in the family emblem the van der Straaten family have Ducks on it ,
His mother has a German name eg von Hanen ? We are not sure at all if this is correct .this was just passed down to us .
The new version in ( ca .1700 ) of the van der Straaten family in Germany were 2 halves ;-
Divided by 4 Quarters
with colours of
(i)Baroque Pink & Gold ,and
(ii) Baroque Pale Blue & Gold and a bar of blank colour ,with 3 Ducks .
the whole emblem is Flanked by / with Leaves ,In the centre top is a Large Bird or Swan ? Bottom;-
the Motto of the emblem is , Virtus in Ohnia via Dux.
Also To distinguish our van der Straaten family ,From their Holland Members
The name is of Dutch Origin but they seems to have Lived or Worked in Germany and have intermarried there.
,I presume the Colours of Blue , Pink and Gold belonged to the maternal parent of Engelbertus van der Straaten
who came to Ceylon .in 1742 ,he married in Ceylon to Susanna Thysz on the 7th of November 1742 .
Engelbertus van der Straaten was a Corporal in the VOC army.
