A lovely little picture of two adorable children, a boy and a girl each with their own doll and a teddy bear in separate buggies, was found in one of our old family albums. It had been glued in at one point and later repositioned with those nice glue-on corner tabs that allow you to remove the photo to read inscriptions on the back. A lot of the black paper was still attached to the back of this photo, but after careful scraping to remove most of it we gleaned the following information.

It appears that this photo was mailed to an uncle and/or aunt, probably in Allegan County, Michigan as it is signed as if it was a note:

Love, Your Niece

Below that is written:

Irene Louise Smith
1829 N. 8th Street
Terre Haute

In another hand in different ink is penned '1-28-11,' (1911). This may be a photo taken a month after Christmas with the kids showing off their beautiful presents, the date it came in the mail, or the birth date of one of the children. The kids are dressed for outdoor play in cool weather; the girl wearing a kind of triangle scarf with large bows and a sweater, the boy a cap and coat and high button shoes. There is also something somewhat unclear about "6 yrs 14 days." We feel that it probably pertains to the age of one of the chilren, probably the little girl who more seems to be the subject of the photo. We don't know if SHE is Irene Louise or if the sender was.

We have a couple of Smith lines to look into but so far haven't run across an Irene. Our best guess is that this is Irene Louise's married name and these are her children. They are really, really beautiful little kids who seemed to be fairly well off and the photo was taken outside in front of a nice house.

The 1910 and census reveals no Irene Smith - assuming that the 8th Street then was the same 8th Street that is there now and it appears that it was.

I'd be happy to email a copy of this very cute photo to anyone who can help me place these two and Irene and help us figure out who the uncle and/or aunt was that received it. It's not impossible that these two children pictured are alive today.
