I have poor photocopies of the newspaper accounts which I copied at the Vigo County Public Library. There were many daily newspapers at the time and several put out special editions because of the event. Info was not accurate in many cases. My Grandfather Ben Bird and his brother Matt Bird were reported as "feared dead" in one of the early editions. They had just stopped off to have a beer before heading home and were not on the passenger train! This info was in a paper I saw at the Vigo County Historical Society many years ago, but I do not have a photocopy of it. Photos I have seen were poor newspaper photocopies. I researched the village of Sandford for a college US History class and the train explosion (and later the church explosion and trial) were just a part of that paper. I did interview a survivior who was a young boy at the time of the explosion.
