Beth, thank you so much for looking up that information! And isn't it interesting that your grandson is named Clark Nichols? :-)
I feel I should explain that Monford and Clark are ancestors of my roommate; we both just happen to be Nichols. I've been helping her find her family (trying to locate cousins) and discovered (another coincidence) that her ggrandfather and my ggrandfather Nichols were both born in Vermillion Co IN. We live in San Jose CA, four generations later. How odd is that?
My ggrandfather Jacob Monroe NICHOLS was b.1851 in Vermillion IN. But our family tree on LDS has him born in Mounde Township, Warren Co IN. Since the two counties are adjoining, I wonder if they were once the same county? Do you happen to know?
My roommate will be so excited to know that you found her Nichols family in the Vermillion census, and now that we know Monford and his brother Jeremiah were born in Kentucky, maybe we can go back another generation. My own Nichols ancestors came from Ohio to Indiana. Supposedly they are descended from a Nichols ancestor who came to Rhode Island from Llantwit Major, South Glamorgan, Wales back in the 1600s. Now I'm wondering about other Nichols families who migrated to the Midwest from southern states.
Thanks again for your wonderful kindness!
