James Earles/Earls and his wife, Mary Jane, were in Vermillion Co., IN in 1880.
James Earles was in the civil war and died of his wounds at a fairly early age. He and his widow received pensions in .
He left one dependent child, Lewis Earles. But other children were found in 1880. Alice, William, and John W. Earles/Earls.
William remained in Vermillion Co. until the 1920 census and perhaps his family remains to this day. John went back to his mother's home in Decatur Co., IN.
Lewis can't be found after he reached majority. I don't have Alice's married name.
After James Earles died, his widow married Gilbert L. Mack.
In 1903, his wife, Mary Jane Mack, applied once again to receive a widow's pension on James Earles' service. Her second husband, Gilbert L. Mack, according to depositions, had been nursed until his death by his widow, Mary Jane, in Vermillion. Does anyone know of the EARLES/EARLS family in Vermillion? Are there county records online?
