Dear Mike,
I have been trying to reach you by email but have had no luck.

I do have information about Elizabeth Smith, who is my ancestor; the Smiths and the Padgetts do go back a ways. I have it that a George Smith was an orphan and fought under Nathan Hinkle during Valley Forge. George later married Nathan's sister. Several generations later another Hinkle, Susie, married into the Padgett family (one of the Theophiluses, I think), and then the Sarah Ellen Smith that married William Padgett is descended from George Smith. The family names in Sullivan County are Wendell and Nathan and Philip, three brothers if I remember correctly. They are all there in the census living right near the Padgetts, and Elizabeth seems to be living with the Padgetts at a ripe old age after her husband died.

Any reply appreciated! This information comes from a book by Junkin in which the Hinkle/Henkle family is traced back clear to their first arrival in America. Also in the book if I remember correctly are letters from Dr. Maple of Dr. Maples journal fame, a good local source of information. Various family members are mentioned in detail in the letters and in the book, which I have access to.
