Ira A. Sweet and Sarah Hadsell moved to Pike County, Illinois from New York about 1838. Both died in Pike County in 1844. Family appears on the 1840 Census in Pike County showing four male children under age 20, no females. Two females believed to be daughters (Anne{Mrs Daniel W.Gray} and Barbara {Mrs George Mallaskey}) were married in 1838 per the Illinois Statewide Marriage Index 1763 - 1900.

During a visit to Pittsfield Public Library in Pike County, I discovered two secondary sources of documentation ({1} "Portrait and Biographical Album of Pike and Calhoun Counties, Illinois", Biographical Publishing Co. Chicago, 1891 and {2) "History of Pike County, Illinois", Chas C. Chapman & Co., Chicago, May 1880) that suggest the Ira and Sarah had eight children. Also found information on a Sylvania Sweet who was identified as a daughter of Ira A. Sweet and Sarah Hadsell. Unfortunately, I failed to document this information so am unable to cite the source at this time. Sylvania married a Nathaniel Smith in 1839 and had eight children.

Following males are believed to be the sons of Ira and Sarah: Ira A.(Jr.), Nathan, Rennselar or Rensellar, and Thomas Andrew. Nathan and Thomas Andrew moved to Texas prior to start of the Civil War but Ira A. (Jr.) and Rennselaer stayed in the Pike County area. Ira married Martha Hewitt but this couple had no children. Rennselaer married Rebecca Hull and had five known children.

I am trying to identify the eighth child of Ira Sweet and Sarah Hadsell. Interested in exchanging inforamtion with anyone researching any of these families.
