Hello, The marriage is not shown at the Illinois State Archives website/marriage database in Coles County. I believe they married in Cumberland County, as Louisa's father and stepmother appear to have relocated after the 1850 census to Cumberland County, Neoga Twp [Thomas Templeton b. ca 1803 NC or SC, married Rebecca Jane Dryden; 8-18-1848]. This is the residence given by John R. Long on the Civil War muster roll; since he both enlisted and mustered out in 1864, he and Louisa were possibly already married and may have resided near, or with, her father's family. I don't know why, but Cumberland County doesn't list marriages other than for the period 1885-1893. Possibly their early marriages were lost or destroyed. Maybe the Cumberland County Genealogical and Historical Society could help with that? If you need the 1850/1860/1870 for Thomas Templeton, let me know and I'll post them. I am not related to this family, just volunteering. Regards, Barbara |
