Seeking information about my great-granduncle Patrick Barton, born Gortaleen, Keel, Castlemaine, Co. Kerry, Ireland in Nov. 1841, baptized Catholic there in Keel Church 8 Nov. 1841 a son of Patrick Barton and wife Catherine MAHER/ MACHIN/ MEAGHER, his baptismal sponsors were Timothy Kennedy and Sara West, in 1870 Patrick b 1841 was living in Humboldt Township, Coles Co., IL with his wife Bridget who was age 26, a Mary KENNEDY was also living with them in 1870, in 1880 , Patrick BARTON was a grocer , living in Charleston, Coles Co., IL with wife Bridget age 29 and their 2 children Katie Barton age 15 born in ?, Indiana and John P. Barton age 4 born in ?, Illinois, When did Patrick and his wife Bridget die? In 1897 it is known that his nephew John Barton of Gortaleen, Keel, Castlemaine, Co. Kerry, Ireland immigrated through Ellis Island to Charleston, IL to live for a short time with his Uncle before settling in Indianapolis, Marion Co., IN. A niece Ellen SHEEHAN Downey also came to this uncle and was married 7 June 1890 in Charleston, Coles Co., IL , and later settled in Danville, IL. The Uncle reportedly had a boarding house in Coles Co., IL where many of his family came to when they came out from Ireland, including my grandmother Mary Barton O'BRIEN who later went on to Indianapolis, IN where she married and then settled in Terre Haute, Vigo Co., IN.
Does Patrick Barton and his wife Bridget and children Katie and son John P. Barton have a tombstone in a Catholic Cem. in Coles Co., IL? Are there any records in the Catholic Church in Charleston, IL. such as a baptism of the son John P. Barton about 1876? What became of Patrick Barton his wife Bridget ?, and their 2 children Katie Barton and John P. Barton? Thanks, Mary tmlein@fullnet.com
