I am seeking the identity of ancestors of the Clay County, Illinois, Stanleys.

My gg grandmother, Nancy P. Stanley married Joseph Spencer in 1848 in Edwards County, Illinois. Supposedly, she was born December 18, 1828 in or near Marietta, Washington County, Ohio, the eldest of many children. Family notes record that she moved to near Bone Gap, Illinois, with her family at the age of 7 (1835). She is listed as Nancy P. Stanley in the Clay County, Illinois, 1850 Census...living with Joseph and two children, Harriet and Edward. Harriet was a daughter of Joseph by an earlier marriage, but Edward was the firstborn of Nancy and Joseph's children. Nancy gave her father as being from Connecticut and her mother from Ohio in one census. In another she listed them both as being from Ohio. Most of the Marietta, Ohio, Stanleys descended from the Stanley founders of Hartford Connecticut; including Francis Roulandson Stanley, who had purchased land in Edwards County by 1836...and thought to be the father of Nancy.

I am attempting to establish Nancy's relationship to other Edwards and Clay County Stanleys.

When she and Joseph moved to Edwards County, they lived very close to Mary Stanley McKibbens (Mrs. Henry J.) and Lucinda Stanley McKibbens (Mrs. Zebulon J.).

While in Clay County, there was a HUTCHIN B. STANLEY that purchased land in the same township as Joseph Spencer...in the year 1853. I am attempting to establish her relationship to other Edwards and Clay County Stanleys.

Clay County marriages of Nancy's era report:
JOHN C. Stanley that married a Nancy CARTRIGHT (1868),
JESSE Stanley that married a Minerva A. NOTTINGHAM (1854),
ELIZABETH ANN Stanley that married a Thomas CRAIG (1862)
SUSAN Stanley who married a James MITCHAN (possible misspelling for MITCHUM) in 1864.

Others thought to be of relation are JULIUS, JAMES and WILLIAM Stanley of Edwards, Wayne and Wabash Counties.

Does anyone have any information regarding the above. Where did the Stanleys migrate to? Who are the siblings of Nancy? Did they remain in Clay County...and what families did they marry into? I am attempting a site for Stanley / Kershaw / Spencer descendants. Would enjoy hearing from others researching this family.
