In 1849 Lewis Pelkey married Mary Jane Belew in Calhoun County. On the 1850 census they are listed as living in Calhoun County with their daughter. Both Lewis and Mary Jane are listed as born in Ohio. I believe they were both born in either Missouri or Illinois. She is probably the daughter of Marshall Belew from Missouri who is also in Calhoun County in 1850 and then moves to Greene County, IL with his wife and other children.
Lewis and Mary Jane Pelkey disappear after the 1850 census. Does anyone have information on the John/Jean Bapteste/Baptist Pelkey who appears in the 1830 census in the Calhoun County area? I think he is also in the St. Louis area/Perry County MO area between 1820 and 1840. There is probably a connection to the Augustus Pelletier/Pelkey family who moved from St. Louis to Montana about 1861.
Any clues greatly appreciated!
