Mary, There is a Historical Society in Hardin Calhoun Co ILL. Its in the downtown area. You will have to ask where it is located as I know where it is, but not the address. Its in the second story of I believe State Farm Insurance Co. It is in the second block off the main road. I go there once a year in Oct. For a small place they have lots of info. They also have Marriage, cemetery, census and other books for sale. I bought almost all the different books they have and I love them. They have file cabinets and keep lots of info in them. They have lots of obits. The only draw back is that they are only open on Wednesdays. I think 9 to 3.
You can also go to the court clerk's office and they have marriage and death records.
We drove up to Pike ILL year before last, they have a Library. Hardin does not have a Library.
In Hardin I went to the Funeral home to see if I could find any info, but he wasn't very helpful. He doesn't have info in the computer, just hand written.
Springfield ILL has a wonderful Library with micro-film and lots of info.
I have some info on White's and McBride. I have also started researching the Miller's. One of the Mulkey's married a Miller. I think it was a Margaret. I am researching Grigsby, Mulkey, McGee, Reeves, Haines, Turner, Bick, Brinkman, and many more.
Good luck on your visit. Going to Hardin is the high light of my year. When you go be sure and eat at least one meal at the River Dock restarant. There food is wonderful especailly the Fried catfish and they have wonderful home made pies, Ruebarb being my favorite. We usually eat at least 2 or 3 meals while there.
Also at Hardin they have an old hotel right next door to the Historical Society, if you need a place to stay. There is RV Parking in Kampsville in the City Park. Its about 9 miles from Hardin.
