Cora Schlichte

GRANVILLE, Iowa - Cora Schlichte, 91, of Granville died Monday, Nov. 6, 2000, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Granville, with Monsignor Kenneth Seifried officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. Wednesday, with a rosary at 5 p.m. said by the Catholic Daughters of America and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen, Iowa.

Mrs. Schilchte was born Feb. 22, 1908, in rural Granville, the daughter of Gregory and Mary (Reith) Penning. She was raised in the Granville area and attended rural school.

She married Joseph Schlichte on Jan. 21, 1930, in Granville. The couple farmed near Granville until her husband died May 11, 1953. She remained on the farm until moving to Le Mars in 1965. She entered Plymouth Manor Care Center in June 1999.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters of America and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

Survivors include four sons and their wives, Gregor and Alice Mae of Craig, Iowa, Clifford and Dolores of Granville, Odelo and Verna of Everly, Iowa, and Bernard and Elaine of Avoca, Minn.; four daughters and their husbands, Lorraine and Darrel Berkenpas of Le Mars, Charlotte and Dan Hoag of Struble, Iowa, Ruth and Bob Hoffmann of Archer, Iowa, and Mary and Ronald Olson of Olathe, Kan.; a daughter-in-law, Hazel Schlichte of Ossaquah, Wash.; 34 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother and his wife, Andrew and Vitalena Penning of Granville; and four sisters, Angeline and her husband, Odilo Goebel of Worthington, Minn., Margaret Penning and Mercedes Beckmann, both of Granville, and Carolyn Klein of Paynesville, Minn.

She also was preceded in death by a son, Patrick; a grandson, Donald Schlichte; a granddaughter, Karen Schlichte; six brothers, Lawrence, Nicholas, Vincent, Raymond, Edward and Leo Penning; and two sisters, Emma Sauer and Florence Block.

Pallbearers will be Doug Berkenpas, Jed Hoag, Chris, Dennis, Jeff, Scott and Ted Schlichte.
