Glen E. McMullen, 75, of Lodi, CA died Friday morning in a local hospital following a brief illness.
He was born in Van Buren Township, IA and raised and educated in Delta, IA. He graduated from the University of Missouri in 1933 in Columbia, Missouri, where he was enrolled on a track and football scholarship.
Mr. McMullen held national collegiate records in track for more than 30 years and played semi-pro football and baseball.
He was enlisted as a Seaman First Class aboard the destroyer Obannon as a gunner during WWII.
Mr. McMullen worked as a public accountant for more than 25 years. He married Dorothy McNay in 1967 and the couple managed the Creekside Apartments in Lodi until his retirement in 1979.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy McMullen of Lodi; his daughter, Donna Dever of Texas; two step-daughters, Elva Brumfield of Aptos and Mary Lou Rice of Modesto; three sisters, Letha Heston and Leona Baker, both of Iowa and Ruth Shearer of Kansas, 14 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. on sunday in the Lodi Funeral Home Chapel. Private inturnment will be held in the Sequoia National Park, Tulary County, California.
