Looking for some help please .....even just a little bit. This is what I have found so far on Cleora, my great grandmother.

1857 Dakota County, Minnesota
Fitch, Peter N. 36 Virginia
Fitch, Elizabeth 35 Ohio
Fitch, William F. 15 Indiana may have been called Frank?
Fitch, Margaret E. 10 Indiana
Fitch, Ezra 8 Indiana
Fitch, Martha 5 Indiana
Fitch, Lyman L. 3 Indiana
Fitch, Albert D. 8 mos. Minn.
Fitch, Albert 20 Ohio

1865 Dakota County, Minnesota
Fitch, P. ? Nininger Twp.
Fitch, Margaret Nininger Twp.
Fitch, Martha Nininger Twp.
Fitch, Lyman L. Nininger Twp.
Fitch, A. D. Nininger Twp.
Fitch, G. A. Nininger Twp. Might this be Cleora? C. A. instead

1870 Census Dakota County, Minnesota
Fitch, Peter N. 50 farmer Virginia
Fitch, Elizabeth 48 Ohio
Fitch, Lyman L. 15 Indiana
Fitch, Albert D. 13 Minnesota
Fitch, Cleora 9 Minnesota
(also listed in the household was one Pedrick Cara or Cora, female 12 born in Wisconsin) Have no idea who this would be.

Harrison County, Iowa 1878 (marriage license)

Application being made this day by Joe. H. Smith (he was an attorney) for license for the marriage of Mr. J. S. Crawford (John Smith Crawford) aged 23 years, and Miss. Catharine A. Fitch aged 17 years, and it appearing by affidavit of Joe H. Smith and written consent of P. N. Fitch on file.

This certifies that on the 25th August 1878 at Reeders Mill in said County, I duly joined in marriage J. S. Crawford and C. A. Fitch

1880 Census Harrison County, Logan town, Iowa
Crawford, John S. 24
Crawford, Cleora A. 18 or 19 (it's blurred)
Crawford, Edward M. 6 mos. son

Edward Melvin Crawford, was born December 3, 1879 Iowa
Ada Crawford, born 1881
Albert H. Crawford, born October, 1883 Iowa
George Leroy Crawford, born January 17, 1887 Iowa

The family returned to the father's home state of Ohio, Hancock County. Just what year I do not know, but the 1900 Ohio Soundex shows them listed, and the father has a new wife.

Family legend is that Cleora lost her mind and she was placed somewhere and never left.... hmm. Maybe because of a divorce? While searching the web site for Harrison County, Iowa I found this:

1922 Farmers of Harrison County - Farmers' Directory of Clay Township

Smith, R. L. Ora Cleora A. P.O. Modale R 20 26 3 F. C. Behm
(husband, wife and daughter) Don't know if there is a connection here or not?

From what I have read Peter Nelson Fitch was born in Virginia, his wife was Elizabeth Buxton or Buckston, from Ohio. They removed to Bartholmew County, Indiana and from there to Minnesota and both of them died in Iowa. I have seen four or five family trees of this family at rootsweb, but none of them show Cleora listed or as part of the family (there is one, but knows nothing of Cleora).

If you know anything please contact me, or you feel I've overlooked something please offer your suggestions. Sorry to have made this so long.

Thank you, Deborah
