I am trying to locate ancestors and/or descendents of HEINRICH LENZ formerly of Magnolia township, Harrison County, Iowa.
Born: November 11, 1817 in Gelnhausen, Germany.
Married first to Katherine OCHS (in Germany?)
Immigrated to the US in 1848 through port of Bremen.
Naturalized in Baltimore, MD on September 30, 1855.
He moved to Magnolia Township in Harrison County, IA around 1866 with children JOHANN DAVID (John) and GRACE and is listed in the "History of Harrison County, Iowa" (1891). He married my great-great grandmother ANNA MARY and had 6 more children: Heinrich (HENRY), Elizabeth (LIZZIE), CHARLES Edward, MARTHA, MARY Ann, and Daniel Wesley (WESLEY). (Henry, Charles, and Wesley changed the spelling to LENTZ.) Henry settled on a farm near Atchison, KS. Charles was a photographer in Logan, IA for a time and is listed in the "History of Harrison County, Iowa" (1891) as a photographer. He eventually moved to Des Moines and then to Atchison, KS. Wesley eventually settled in northwest MO. Mary, Martha, and Lizzie never married and lived in Des Moines. Eventually, Mary moved to Atchison near her brothers.
Since I am descended from the Kansas relations, we have little information about our Harrison County relatives. According to family lore, there was a falling-out between the children from Heinrich's first marriage and his second marriage, hence, the name change from LENZ to LENTZ. John and possibly Grace appeared to remain in the Harrison County, IA area and retained the LENZ spelling. I do know that JOHN married AMELIA FISHER January 23, 1879 and had at least 3 children: REUBEN J., LULA L., and ALICE. John is listed both the 1870 and 1880 Harrison county censuses and he owned land according to the "1881 Illustrated Atlas of Harrison County". John, his wife Amelia, and 3 of their children are buried in the Magnolia cemetery. There is also a listing in this cemetery for a John J. Lentz (s/o H and A Lentz) that may also be related. Unfortunately, I have not been able to locate the burial place of Heinrich and Anna Lenz and the only death date that I have is for Anna (March 17, 1899) from a 2 sentence obituary I found at the Harrison County Genealogical Society Library stating that she died at her son's home in Atchison, KS. I would like to find someone who may help me fill in the missing gaps.
I have much, much more information as well as documents and photographs to share. If any of this information sounds familiar. Please contact me, and I will gladly share what I have. My e-mail address is email@example.com.
