Seeking information on CHARLES VonBERG. He is listed in the 27th Regiment Iowa Volunteer Infantry, Co D. in McGregor,Clayton,IA. He was 26 yrs old, a resident of McGregor, nativity Germany. He enlisted 20 Aug 1862 and was mustered 13 Sept 1862. Promoted Sixth Corporal 13 Apr 1863 Reduced to ranks at his own request. Mustered out 8th Aug 1865 at Clinton Co, IA.
Are there records of the Clayton Co. volunteers?
I have a picture and on the back is written, "Charles Von Berg, 27th Iowa Infantry Vol Batt A 3d ILL (Vaughan.) Chief Scout to Gen. Stanley and Gen. Crook. Gen G.A. Custer inthe Yellowstone Indian Campaign against the Sioux 1875-76."
