I am an Irish born Hyland/O'Haolain.To suggest that Hyland is derived from O'Haolain could not be further from the truth. The English name Hyland came to Ireland via Cromwellian "adventurers" and was Gaelicised to O'Haolain in schools to "fit in"as being accepted as Irish..To link it with O'Faolain is an error. The English Hylands were prominent in the Kent/Sussex border.
